| After thinking about what people in the past have done for their independent experiments, Betty and I decided to team up and make bath bombs. I was hesitant at first because I didn't really know what the science behind bath bombs would be, but after learning a little bit about them, I was excited. When baking soda and citric acid are mixed together, a chemical reaction occurs. (The same exact thing is the reason why this happens to alka seltzer.) The reaction creates a lot of bubbles and it seems like the bath bomb is moving in the water, because of the citric acid and baking soda reacts when dropped into the water. This experiment wasn't as successful as I wanted to be, because we had a lot of ingredients and we should have been able to make at least 8 bath bombs. While we were still getting situated, we let the mixture dry up too much so it was difficult to get the right consistency after awhile. After a lot of failure, we only produced four bath bombs. All in all, I think they turned out really well. We had very cool colors and added sprinkles and little flowers. I haven't used my bath bomb yet, however Betty tried hers and it turned out to be really cool. If I could do this experiment again, I would plan more time for us, and try to be a little more clean. The ingredients went everywhere, and because we ran out of time, it took awhile for us to clean up. I definitely learned a little bit about the science and background of something I didn't know about before, and I think there was a lot of learning in this experiment. |
